Die Thread Group setzt mit dem gleichnamigen Funkstandard auf das IP-basierte Protokoll IPv6. Letzterer Funkstandard setzt auf Software, um Smart-Home-Ger\u00e4te zu erkennen und mit ihnen zu kommunizieren. Thread macht dies alles bereits im Funkprotokoll. Wo Zigbee noch auf eine Bridge setzt, wird diese bei Thread theoretisch \u00fcberfl\u00fcssig. Allerdings werden bestimmte Funktionen, etwa der Fernzugriff, weiterhin eine Internetverbindung voraussetzen. Das hat bisher die Bridge \u00fcbernommen.
